My name is Marguerite O’Reilly, and I am a mother of three sons, two of whom are on the autism spectrum, as well as a grandmother to a child with autism. My youngest son John, was diagnosed at the age of two years and nine months. At the time, we were unaware that the behaviours he exhibited were indicative of autism. We had been consulting with doctors to understand the reasons behind John’s difficulties with walking, among other concerns. Following his diagnosis, we discovered that he had an iron deficiency. Once he began receiving iron supplements, many of his symptoms significantly improved.

Despite lacking formal medical training, I took it upon myself to explore various over-the-counter products to alleviate John’s symptoms. My goal was to enable him to access behavioural and speech therapies, facilitating his development into adulthood.

Through my research, I determined that a blend of fermented grasses, a variety of probiotic strains, and digestive enzymes—formulated to promote overall digestive health, improves nutrient absorption, regulates the immune system, and offered antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The protocol also includes Organic Sulphur, Silica Water, Vitamin D and Magnesium.

I sometimes overlook the difficult moments I experienced with my son, which were truly heart-wrenching.

However, I also feel immense happiness and joy when I reflect on the progress he has made.

At Gut Health Matters NI, we are dedicated to improving the comprehension of the gut-brain connection in those with autism. Our objective is to provide comprehensive research and resources related to gut health to support individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorders. Through our efforts, we aim to emphasize the crucial role of gut health in autism and to explore new strategies for enhancing overall well-being. While many organisations are making important strides in the area of Autism, we are confident that our approach is innovative and ground breaking.
